Young Turks Menace Australian Folkies

MACKAY, Australia (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — In response to problems with drunken teens at an Australian folk festival, organizers have announced that they plan to impose a ban on attendees under the age of twenty five.

According to the Daily Mercury the move came after a group of 15-17 year-olds engaged in what was described as increasingly-bad behavior at the three day Springfest in Mackay, including drunkenness, threats of violence against other festival-goers and staff and playing loud, disruptive music. The police were eventually called.

Consequently, they are hoping to avoid the whole affair next year by encouraging people to leave the kids at home.

"We've tried to solve the problem other ways but nothing has worked, so from next year's Wintermoon festival an age restriction will be enforced." Co-organiser Chris Cann told the Daily Mercury. Children accompanied by parents are still welcome.

While radical, the strategy may be viable at a folk event where the demographics tend to skew towards more mature fans. It remains to be seen if such draconian measures would bear fruit with a festival like Bonnaroo. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
