The Litigation Over Chris Brown's Failed Australian Tour Commences

SYDNEY, NSW (CelebrityAccess) — Chris Brown's Australian tour promoter is being sued in the wake of the artist's aborted tour.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, promoter Castor & Ford Agency Pty Ltd. is facing a lawsuit from Westgate Entertainment, a principal investor in the tour, who are seeking two tranches of money allegedly advanced for the tour.

Lawyers for Westgate allege that their client agreed to invest $2.63 million in the tour, which was to be repaid in full from the gross profits. As well, Westgate's investment would have given them a 50% stake in any net profits from the tour.

Westgate's lawyers also contend that their clients advanced an additional $1 million to the promoter as a loan, to be repaid by November 25 or to incur 5 per cent interest per annum from that date until it was repaid.

Brown was due to perform a short, 4-date tour of Australia in December, 2015, however, the Australian government indicated in September 2015 that they intended to refuse Brown's request for an entry visa due to "character grounds" and offering him 28 days to appeal. Brown appealed was rejected in early December, leading the tour to be canceled.

Brown infamously plead guilty in 2009 of assaulting and threatening his then girlfriend Rihanna. While Brown was not jailed, he received a 5-year suspended sentence in the case. – Staff Writers
