Security Expert Warns Against Wave Of Festival Fraud

LONDON (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — A security expert is warning UK festival producers that criminals are planning to target UK music festivals in 2010 with "highly convincing" counterfeit wristbands.

According to the BBC, Reg Walker from Iridium Security made the warnings during a presentation at the UK Festival Awards and Conference in London. Walker said that criminals appear to have made test runs with the wrist bands in 2009 and he expects them to be produced in the "thousands" this year.

"What's worrying is the quality of the wristband, right down to the barcode. They're highly convincing and virtually indistinguishable from the real item," he said.

Walker, who works with V fest, T in the Park and Isle of Wight events, urged the industry to take action against the fakes. "If you have many thousands of people turned away when they have paid £100, £150 or £200, that is where the danger lies," Walker said. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
