Rock Band Network Store Goes Online

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Rock Band Network Music store which was announced last July has opened for business, allowing artists to sell music as downloadable add-on content for the game franchise.

Artists will be able to sell music through the service after having it prepped as a game file by programmers. Artists will be able to set their own prices for the music, which will not have to go through a traditional licensing process for inclusion in the game but the game franchises' owner, MTV will take a 70% cut of the proceeds, Billboard reported.

So far, more than 100 songs are available for download for use in the game, primarily from artists who participated in the beta program, including songs from The Shins, Steve Vai, Smashing Pumpkins, Bang Camaro and others. MTV said that an additional 300 artists are in the works to bolster the store's offerings.

The Band Music Store is a separate entity from the licensed music included in the Rock Band Platform itself, which already boasts more than 1,000 songs that had been licensed for use in the game by developer Harmonix. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
