Historic Jefferson Theater To Re-Open This Month

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Starr Hill Presents announced that Charlottesville's Jefferson Theater will re-open on November 27, 2009 after an extensive three-year renovation. Sons of Bill and Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit will co-headline the venue's inaugural performance. A full line-up of shows has been announced on jeffersontheater.com, including performances by Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, RJD2, Tea Leaf Green and a very special New Year's Eve celebration with gypsy punk troubadours Gogol Bordello.

Purchased by Coran Capshaw in 2006, The Jefferson has undergone a comprehensive restoration that highlights the theater's vintage architecture while modernizing its facilities. The theater will feature two full-service bars on separate floors, a restored balcony, new central air and heating systems, and new restrooms throughout the facility. In addition, state-of-the art sound and lighting systems and treatments to the theater's acoustics will make The Jefferson an excellent environment to experience live music. While the theater will be able to accommodate up to 750 guests, The Jefferson can be configured in multiple ways to host top local artists all the way up to national touring headliners. Additional restoration to the theater's second balcony and basement will be made while the theater is in operation.

"It's been a privilege to work on a building with so much history and see it come back to life as another entertainment destination in our vibrant downtown," said Kirby Hutto, who has overseen The Jefferson's renovation. "I think folks will be amazed when they see how this beautiful piece of our historical fabric has transformed into a venue that patrons will hopefully love for the next 100 years."

The Jefferson aims to hold more than 150 events annually. While serving as a premier destination to watch live music, the theater will also host charity events and private rentals. Charlottesville-based concert promoter, Starr Hill Presents, will book and manage the venue exclusively.

Located on Charlottesville's historic Downtown Mall, The Jefferson Theater was established in 1912 as a live performance theater that played host to silent movies, vaudeville acts and a historic list of live performers, ranging from Harry Houdini to The Three Stooges. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
