Cosby Likely Headed To Trial In Criminal Assault Case

PHILADELPHIA, PA (CelebrityAccess) — Bill Cosby's criminal sexual assault case will likely go to trial after a judge denied his efforts to have the case dismissed.

Cosby's attorneys had argued that a promise made to Cosby by a previous district attorney should preclude trial and appealed a decision by Montgomery County Judge Steven O'Neill that there was sufficient evidence for the trial to proceed.

According to the Associated Press, Montgomery County Judge Steven O'Neill denied the appeal, stating that he found no evidence of such an agreement lacking and that the issue did not warrant an immediate appeal.

The 78-year-old comedian is facing charges that he allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted an ex-Temple University employee at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004. Cosby could face up to 10 years in prison if he is convicted.
