Concert Noise Putting Historic Landmarks At Risk

LONDON (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — A scientist has warned the Historic Royal Palaces Association that concerts and other events with loud noises are damaging the "fabric and contents" of the historic places where they are being held, the Telegraph reported.

According to the Telegraph Dr. Ian Gibb, a conservation scientist in the employ of the organization that maintains the Tower of London, Hampton Court and other historic sites in the UK told the association that "Vibration created by music was shown to have some effect on windows directly surrounding the stage area, with windows already suffering from some decay particularly at risk of further damage," adding that "Bass frequencies, usually greater for pop concerts versus classical concerts, were found to increase the risk of damage."

An annual music festival held for the past 15 years at Hampton Court was the first to be investigated after anecdotal evidence suggested that the windows and brickwork were being adversely affected.

In response, the Society is introducing measures to stop funding rock concerts, establishing noise limits and requirements for "low-noise fireworks" at events. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
