BOSTON, MA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Boston University honored deceased local sports star Harry Agganis by naming their new arena after him.
Agganis, who excelled at both football and baseball at the university, died in 1955 of a pulmonary embolism cutting short a promising professional baseball career with the Red Sox after only two years. He was 26 years old.
The 6,300 seat Agganis Arena will be home to the school’s hockey team as well as both the men’s and women’s basketball teams. BU hockey coach Jack Parker said during a speech at the gala opening, “I am proud of BU, and I keep telling people I can't wait for the BC and Harvard people to see it (the arena). When we did the Harry Agganis Arena, we did it right.” –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
