LAS VEGAS (CelebrityAccess) — The Weeknd ruled the roost at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, taking home eight awards including Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Album, Top Streaming Song (Audio) and Top R&B Song. That is the most of any male artist in a single night since the show was revived by ABC in 2011.
Adele also had a big night, taking home five awards including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Selling Song. Rihanna won the fan voted award of the evening, The “Billboard Chart Achievement Award.”
Performances on the night included Britney Spears, who opened the show with a medley drawn from her catalog before accepting the Millennium Award. Celine Dion performed Queen's "The Show Must Go On" before accepting the Icon Award. Madonna performed a tribute to Prince and Adele debuted her new video "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)."
Other performances included Kesha, performing a tribute to Dylan with "It Ain't Me Babe" with Ben Folds on piano; the Go-Gos performing their classic hit "We Got The Beat"; a duet Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton; and Nick Jonas and Tove Lo singing their new single “Close.”
Hosted by Ludacris and Ciara, the show was broadcast live from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
