Shawn Smith, Singer Of Rock Band Brad, Dies

SEATTLE (CelebrityAccess) Shawn Smith, 53, singer of Seattle alt-rock band Brad, died because of complications from diabetes April 5.

Smith was somewhat of a journeyman, performing in Malfunkshun alongside future MOther Love Bone frontman Andrew Wood, then partnering with producer Steve Fisk and Soundgarden’s Kim Thayll to release an album as the group Pigeonhed. He was also a member of the group The Twilight Singers.

Brad released five albums between 1993 and 2012, the most recent being United We Stand. Two of its members also play in Pearl Jam – Stone Gossard and Regan Hagar.

“The gentlest of gentle souls, with a voice that came from the deepest regions of the spirit, I hope he finds peace and rest on his soul’s onward journey,” Posies founder Ken Stringfellow said.

“God speed to our friend Shawn Smith. One of the great Seattle voices. Rest In Peace Brotherman,” Alice In Chains bassist Mike Inez said.

Consequence of Sound noted that Smith passed away on the same day as other Seattle luminaries Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley of Alice In Chains.
