CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) – The news media has moved to allow cameras in a Cook County courtroom for the sexual abuse case against R&B star R. Kelly.

Judge Lawrence Flood, who is presiding over Kelly’s case, will take up the issue at a hearing Friday (March 15) at the Leighton Criminal Court Building. The singer, who is charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse, is not expected to attend.

Another judge in the same courthouse has yet to decide if he’ll let cameras in court in “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett’s case, according to The AP. Smollett is charged with 16 counts of felony disorderly conduct after authorities say he lied about being the victim of a racist and homophobic attack in the streets of Chicago earlier this year.

Judges have allowed several recent high-profile cases to be video-recorded, including trials in the slayings of Laquan McDonald and Hadiya Pendleton.

At least one alleged victim has formally objected to being filmed should she appear in court, according to The Chicago Tribune.
