NEW YORK, NY (CelebrityAccess) – Anthony Bourdain, “the original rock star of the culinary world,” has passed away at the age of 61.

CNN confirmed Bourdain’s death on Friday morning and said the cause of death was suicide. Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series “Parts Unknown,” which began its eleventh season last month. He was found unresponsive in his hotel room by close friend and French chef, Eric Ripert.

“It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain,” the network said in a statement. “His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”

A true master of his crafts, Bourdain did it all. From the kitchen to multiple television shows and books, he was a troubadour and a world-traveler who invited people from all backgrounds, races, and creeds to break bread together around a single kitchen table in hopes that we’d learn to understand each other just a little bit better.\

“That was very shocking when I woke up this morning: ‘Anthony Bourdain is dead’,” President Donald Trump said. “I enjoyed his show; he was quite a character, I will say … I want to extend my condolences, and also to the family of Kate Spade.”
