LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — For the second week in a row, Sony’s superhero action movie Venom and Warner Bros. musically-themed A Star Is Born held the top two spots in worldwide box office revenue.

According to estimates compiled by comScore, Venom earned $35.7M in North American theaters and $105.4M worldwide, in its second weekend of theatrical release.

A Star Is Born continued to perform in the theaters during its second weekend as well, earning $28.0M domestically, and $48.2M worldwide.

New entries for this week, including Universal’s First Man, a dramatization of the moon landing, failed to generate much traction with audiences.

The film, which featured Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong and with direction from Damien Chazelle (La La Land) failed to recoup its estimated $70m production budget, earning just $16.5M in North America and $25.1M worldwide.

Sony’s seasonally appropriate Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween and 20th Centgury Fox’s neo-noir thriller Bad Times at the El Royale also landed with a thud. Goosebumps scared up just $19.9M for its debut while Bad Times bowed to just $11.2m from 37 territories worldwide.
