LONDON (CelebrityAccess) – Terry O’Neill, the legendary photographer who chronicled London’s social and cultural revolution during the 1960s, has passed away at the age of 81.

O’Neill reportedly died at home on Saturday night after a long battle with prostate cancer.

“It is with a heavy heart that Iconic Images announces the passing of Terence ‘Terry’ O’Neill, CBE,” a spokeswoman for his agency, Iconic Images, said. “As one of the most iconic photographers of the last 60 years, his legendary pictures will forever remain imprinted in our memories, as well as in our hearts and minds.”

O’Neill was known for his photographs of some of the era’s most iconic music, fashion and film stars including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, David Bowie, Brigitte Bardot, Sean Connery, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, and Elton John, among countless others.

John paid tribute to O’Neill on Twitter, saying: “Terry O’Neill took the most iconic photographs of me throughout the years, completely capturing my moods. He was brilliant, funny and I absolutely loved his company. A real character who has now passed on. RIP you wonderful man. Love, Elton.”

Earlier this year, O’Neill was awarded a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for services to photography.
