PARIS (CelebrityAccess) Streaming music service Deezer reported in a recent survey that discovered something that Americans have known about themselves for decades: that the British stop listening to new music around the age of 30.

Deezer, which is available in the U.S. and generating from France, surveyed 1,000 Brits and found that they stop their musical curiosity at 30-and-a-half-years old, according IQ Magazine. The “musical paralysis” comes from a feeling of being overwhelmed by the mass of choice available, according to 19 percent of those surveyed, having a demanding job, 16 percent, and caring for young children, 11 percent.

Nearly half said they wish they could spend more time discovering new music and 41 percent said that in the future they hope to spend more time checking out new artists. The peak of discovery is around 24 years old, IQ said of the report. At this age, 75 percent reported listening to 1j0 or more new tracks per week and 64 percent sought out at least five new artists a month.

“With so much brilliant music out there, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed,” Deezer’s UK and Ireland music editor Adam Read told IQ. “This often results in us getting stuck in ‘musical paralysis’ by the time we hit our thirties.”
