Social Media Influencers Visit Chernobyl, Bare Bottoms And All

UKRAINE (CelebrityAccess) As HBO’s miniseries “Chernobyl” gathers word-of-mouth attention for its depiction of the nuclear plant collapse in the Soviet Union in 1986, the site of the disaster has seen an uptick in visitors, many of whom are using the area as a backdrop for selfies, not all of which are entirely respectful of the situation.

“Chernobyl” has sparked attention through its graphic depiction of destruction and bureaucratic mishandling of the situation, although some have questioned its validity. Either way, the HBO special has brought more visitors to the abandoned Ukranian area of the disaster, which has been open for tourism since 2011.

And, for some reason, the influencers of Instagram have gone so far as to use the site as a backdrop for modeling.

Although not all of the influencers have taken to stripping to their undies, the common theme appears to be influencer in front, site of one of the worst disasters in modern history in the back.

“It’s wonderful that #ChernobylHBO has inspired a wave of tourism to the Zone of Exclusion. But yes, I’ve seen the photos going around,” show creator Craig Mazin tweeted. “If you visit, please remember that a terrible tragedy occurred there. Comport yourselves with respect for all who suffered and sacrificed.”

In that regard, not everyone approves of the takeover. The model who decided to pose in her skivvies did not get the attention she desired.

“Delete your account,” one person responded. “What is wrong with you,” said another. And a third: “This is the dumbest s*** I’ve ever seen.”

This is not the first time where the lovers of the ‘gram have not comported themselves with respect. The Auschwitz Museum had to tell Instagrammers to stop posing on the train tracks that brought prisoners to the concentration camp.
