MEXICO CITY (CelebrityAccess) — The cancellation of several headliners at the Mexico edition of Slipknot’s curated Knotfest led to a riot with angry fans storming the stage to trash the touring gear of Evanescence.
The riot followed cancellation of performances by both Slipknot and Evanescence, who pulled the plug on their sets over concerns about damaged safety barriers at the festival.
Following the outburst of violence, Slipknot addressed the incident via social media:
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Slipknot were not able to perform at last night’s Knotfest.”
“Security barricades became an issue, and it was decided that for the safety of the fans, neither Slipknot or special guests Evanescence could take the stage.”
“We had hoped to be able to perform today, but regrettably, a situation arose onstage after the cancellation that damaged or destroyed gear that would have been necessary to play.”
“We are extremely disappointed that we did not get the chance to perform, but the safety of our fans and our community is our biggest priority. We will look to get back to Mexico sometime in the future.”
While both bands posted notices online announcing the cancellation of their performances, fans at the festival didn’t get the word due to Internet connectivity issues at the festival site, several media outlets reported

Evanescence also addressed the destruction of their gear.
