NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) – R. Kelly is due in a New York City court Friday (Aug. 2) for an arraignment on charges he sexually abused women and girls.
As of Friday morning, online records show Kelly, who was reportedly transported from a Chicago lockup to Teterboro Airport in New Jersey late Thursday afternoon, is being housed at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center.
The jailed Kelly, who is charged in New York with exploiting five victims, is scheduled to appear at back-to-back hearings in federal court in Brooklyn, where he is expected to enter a not guilty plea and then seek bail, reports AP.
The hearings follow his arrest last month in a separate Chicago case accusing him of engaging in child pornography.
Lawyers for Kelly have reportedly asked a New York judge to grant Kelly bail so he can better fight the charges as they also seek his release in Chicago.
Defense papers label his accusers “disgruntled groupies,” according to AP.
