Pandora Adds Full Song Credits

While the shift to digitally delivered music has expanded ease of use and access for the consumer, it has fallen short in some aspects, most notably in song credits.

While music fans could once rely on album liner notes to learn about the personnel on their favorite song, consumers are now left to search online databases for such information, if they even know the databases exist.

Pandora on Thursday announced a plan to change that dynamic, and the music streaming service will begin offering full song credits to users across all tiers of both its web service and its forthcoming desktop app for Mac and Windows.

The first few credits are visible on a song’s details page and users can access full credits for a given song by clicking on the “See All Song Credits” link, providing a list of everyone from songwriters to background singers and studio musicians.

Pandora teased the new feature with the launch of a curated liner notes playlist that will provide a ‘deep dive’ into liner note trivia, starting with a look at prolific drummer Hal Blaine, who, as part of the legendary Wrecking Crew played on more than 6,000 singles and 35,000 recording sessions.
