NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) – NYU Steinhardt and Universal Music Group have announced a study away program for undergraduate NYU students at the company’s legendary Berry Hill Studios in Nashville.

According to NYU, the course, which runs between January 5-19, 2020, provides students interested in a music career with tools they’ll need to succeed after graduation.

Studio experiences will be led by Grammy Award-winning professionals David Leonard (who has worked with Prince, John Mellencamp, and Paul McCartney) and Steve Fishell (who has worked with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris), while classes will be supervised and administered by Susan Dodes, a talent and artist development executive and instructor at NYU Steinhardt, who created the program and partnership with UMG. Special attention will be placed on A&R talent evaluation, recording and mixing of live talent, and preproduction and budgeting.

“Nashville is at the center of the music industry and grants incredible access to some of the biggest names in the business,” said Dodes. “It’s the perfect place for students to not only learn how to make commercial recordings, but to also discover the most effective tools and methods for bringing these recordings to a wide range of audiences.”

“UMG’s commitment to artistry, innovation and entrepreneurship means they have consistently been at the forefront of a music industry undergoing significant disruption,” said Larry Miller, clinical music associate professor and director of NYU Steinhardt’s Music Business program. “We’re equipping our students with the skills to help artists make great music in the context of this fundamental change and invent the future of the industry.”
