Noted Ibiza Downtempo DJ And Producer José Padilla Dead At 64

IBIZA, Spain (CelebrityAccess) — José Padilla, a Spanish disc jockey whose downtempo sunset DJ sets helped him to become a fixture in Ibiza, died on Sunday. He was 64.

His passing was announced via social media and through his official website: “It is with great sadness that we bring you the news that José passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday night here on his beloved island of Ibiza. His family and friends would like to say thank you to everybody who sent donations and messages of support to help make his last few months easier, and to all the staff of Can Misses Hospital for taking care of him until the end. Now he has gone and the sunset in Ibiza will never be the same without him, but the beautiful music of Jose Padilla will stay with us forever. Adiós maestro.”

The statement did not provide a cause of death but in July, Padilla revealed that he had been diagnosed with colon cancer and was preparing to undergo an operation.

He also expressed concerns about his financial situation and noted that he had been without income for months due to the coronavirus pandemic and established a crowdfunding campaign to help defray the costs of his treatment.

Padilla was best known for his long residency at Ibiza’s famed Café del Mar, which led to a series of mixed compilations on React Records. He released several albums of his own material, including 2001’s Navigator, for which he received a Latin Grammy nomination for best instrumental album.
