HONG KONG (CelebrityAccess) Hong Kong will reportedly step up its efforts to curb price gouging for an upcoming concert by Cantonese pop queen Sammi Cheng Sau-man after ticket rose to 30 times their original price.

Tickets are going for HK$30,000 (approximately US$3,800), raised from the original price of HK$980, according to the South China Morning Post. At least 30 percent of tickets to the July concert will need to be made available to the public rather than corporate partners, up from the current 20 percent.

The city’s Home Affairs Bureau has been stepping up efforts to slow down scalping, and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department said the change would apply to more than four shows at the Hong Kong Coliseum and Queen Elizabeth Stadium.

“The government has to strike a balance between public demands and the views of the industry,” a statement read.

Tickets were priced at HK$980, HK$680 and HK$380, but all had sold out by Tuesday afternoon, the Morning Post said.
