Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland's Silver Anniversary


(CelebrityAccess News Service) — Still swingin' after 25 years, Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland (April 14-25) is throwing a non-stop world-class jazz party. In addition to an weekend of gala concerts, the festival will offer something for every jazz palate and take place at venues all over the city, from the Cleveland Museum of Art to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. April 16-17 is dedicated to two music icons, Horace Silver and Tommy LiPuma. A galaxy of jazz artists will gather in Cleveland during two nights at the Allen Theatre for benefit concerts in tribute to these legends. Award-winning jazz bassist and composer John Clayton will serve as musical director for these one-of-a-kind concerts.

"Silver on Silver" features the music of the "Hardbop Grandpop," Horace Silver, whose work with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers sparked the beginning of the hard-bop era. Performing his music will be David Sanborn, Al Jarreau, Joe Sample, The Brecker Brothers, Christian McBride, Joe Lovano, Geoffrey Keezer, Lewis Nash and The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestraon April 16 at the Allen Theatre with tickets priced at $100-$85. The show is presented by Chrysler, Friday! in The Plain Dealer, The Verve Music Group and 107.3 The Wave.

"The Art of LiPuma" honors Verve Chairman Tommy LiPuma, Cleveland's native son. With twenty-one gold and platinum records to his credit, thirty Grammy nominations and three Grammy awards, he is one of the most successful pop and jazz producers ever. Performers will include Diana Krall, George Benson, Dr. John, Jimmy Scott, David Newman, Joe Lovano, Christian McBride, Geoffrey Keezer, Lewis Nash and The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra at the Allen Theatre on April 17 with tickets priced at $100-$85. The concert is presented by National City Bank, The Verve Music Group, and 107.3 The Wave.

The eclectic and electric 2004 Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland music menu includes acid-jazz, salsa, a legendary electronic keyboard virtuoso, hip hop, and a violinist on top of the classical and jazz charts. Other ticketed concerts are by Sam Rivers Trio at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland (April 15); Jazz Meets Hip Hop, Part 2 at the Beachland Ballroom (April 19); "Dameron's Dance" -at theCCC Metro Main Stage Theatre (April 20); Don Braden Organ Quartet at the HealthSpace Cleveland Auditorium (April 21); Regina Carter Quintet – The Cleveland Museum of Art (April 22); The Joe Zawinul Syndicate at the CCC Metro Auditorium (April 23); and Brian Auger's Oblivion Express at the The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum (April 25).

In addition to ticketed concerts, Tri-C JazzFest will offer free concerts around town throughout the festival. Continental Airlines is the official airline of Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland.
