LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Mississippi farm boy Trent Harmon, 25, was crowned as the winner of the 15th and final season of "American Idol."
Harmon beat out crowd favorite and fellow Mississippian La'Porsha Renae to take the grand prize in the finale of the long-running televised talent competition.
The final episode of the show also featured a return of former co-hosts Brian Dunkleman and former prickly judge Simon Cowell. The show also featured former Idol winner Carrie Underwood performing a duet with Idol judge Keith Urban and Ellis Marsalis Center for Music student and 9-year-old New Orleans native Marley Fletcher joined Harry Connick Jr. for a duet of “What a Wonderful World.”
According to Nielsen, the ratings for the final were the best the show has seen in some time, with more than 13 million viewers tuning in. The show was the most-watched on Thursday night among viewers under 50, Nielsen said. – Staff Writers
