Celebrating the 25th anniversary of its formation, Joe Jackson and his original band — Gary Sanford (guitar), Graham Maby (bass) and Dave Houghton (drums) — are re-uniting for a new album and world tour slated for March/April 2003.
The Joe Jackson Band formed in 1978 and toured non-stop until its last show on December 15, 1980.
Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers Tour Set
Tom Petty and 
the Heartbreakers will perform their entire new album,
"The Last DJ," Oct. 15 at Los Angeles' Grand Olympic Auditorium. The show will be videotaped and transmitted live by satellite to 38 U.S. movie theaters and will be simulcast live on radio stations in the US and Canada. The group will be backed by a full orchestra for the event. They will perform a second show at the venue on October 16, but it will not be broadcast. The new album is due October 8, and will be followed by a tour beginning October 30.

Beginning November 88 in San Diego, Shakira's North American tour will visit 30 cities through February with a European stop-over in December including dates in London, Cologne and Barcelona. Borodina Withdraws From 'Les Troyens'
NEW YORK (AP) — Lorraine Hunt Lieberson will replace Olga Borodina as Dido in the Metropolitan Opera's new production of Berlioz's "Les Troyens."
Borodina, who performed as Dalila in Monday's opening-night gala, withdrew because she is pregnant.
Lieberson will be in the first four performances, starting Feb. 10, according to the Met's Web site, joined by Ben Heppner (Aeneas), Deborah Voigt (Cassandra), Elena Zaremba (Anna), Dwayne Croft (Chorebe) and Robert Lloyd (Narbal).
James Levine, the Met's artistic director, will conduction the performances, which commemorate the 200th anniversary year of Berlioz's birth on Dec. 11, 1803.
Visa Woes Cancel Cucho Valdes Concert
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — An 
Oct. 4 performance by Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist Chucho Valdes has been canceled because the federal government won't let the Cuban musician enter the United States.
A new federal law enacted after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks prevented Valdes from getting the proper travel visa needed to embark on his American tour, which was scheduled for a stop at UNC-Chapel Hill next Friday.
Valdes was one of 22 Cuban musicians unable to obtain a visa in time to attend the Latin Grammy Awards in Los Angeles last week. Valdes won for best pop instrumental album, his first Grammy after decades of work.
State Department officials said last week the performers weren't denied visas. Instead, they were required by a law enacted in May to clear a lengthy screening process, one that had not yet been completed.
At UNC, word came down late last week that Valdes, scheduled to kick off the Carolina Union's 2002-03 performance series, wasn't coming to town.
"It was a huge problem, a scramble," said Don Luse, director of the Carolina Union. "As a result, we have rescheduled another performer."
The university quickly chose a salsa and jazz act, Ray Barretto and New World Spirit, to fill the spot. Tickets for the Valdes performance will be honored at the Barretto appearance.
Rocktoberfest Concert Set For Florida On October 19
Rocktoberfest 
will take place October 19 at Fantasy of Flight in Lakeland, FL and is billed as "the ultimate one-day line-up of classic rock artists." The 12 hours of non-stop
rock will be performed live on dual stages, featuring performances by David Lee Roth, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Meat Loaf, Ace Frehley, Joan Jett, Vince Neil (former singer of Motley Crue), Warrant, Firehouse, Quiet Riot and Dokken. Fantasy of Flight, an expansive picturesque setting, is centrally located in the heart of Florida where the climate is most temperate. It is one hour west of Orlando and one hour east of Tampa on Interstate 4.
Rocktoberfest takes place the same week as Biketoberfest in Daytona, Florida, which will give bikers and music fans one more event to enjoy in Florida.
The promoter is Woodfest Promotions founded in 1999 by Allan Wood and James Chapman, which brings nationally known musicians to central Florida for festival style events. They feel that they fill a niche overlooked or avoided by larger promotion companies.
Joan Jett Enlists For Fifth USO Tour
Joan Jett will 
return for the fifth time to the USO stage to perform for service members at "Operation Enduring
Freedom" Forward Operating Bases. The tour started September 23rd and winds down October 2nd. In addition to her performances, she will sign autographs, mingle with the troops and tour military facilities.
The USO and Armed Forces Entertainment partnered to make this tour possible, along with USO World Partners Anheuser- Busch, AT&T, BAE SYSTEMS, Clear Channel, Coca-Cola, ESPN, PricewaterhouseCoopers, S&K Sales Company, USAA Foundation, VFW, Wal-Mart and The Walt Disney Company.
Merle Haggard Cancels 11 Concerts
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Country 
singer Merle Haggard canceled 11 concerts this month because of back trouble, a spokesman said.
"Merle said he is sorry about this inconvenience … and he hopes everyone understands," said Lance Roberts, his booking agent.
Haggard, 65, has four herniated discs in his back and is at home in California resting and getting medical care, Roberts said Friday. More concerts could be canceled, depending on what treatment is prescribed.
September concerts had been scheduled in Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga, Tenn.; Washington; Atlanta; and other cities.
Haggard's hits include "Mama Tried" and "Okie From Muskogee."
He is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Tori Amos Sets Fall Headlining Tour
Tori Amos 
will embark on her On Scarlet's Walk headlining tour on November 7 in Tampa, Florida in support of her Epic Record's debut, Scarlet's Walk, which will be released on October 29. Featured on the tour will be long-time collaborators Jon Evans on bass and Matt Chamberlain on drums and percussion.
The album, Scarlet's Walk, is a journey in itself, a sonic novel in which each song represents a specific stop on the way across America. The central figure on the album is Scarlet, a woman who criss-crosses the country in search of answers, in search of herself. On Scarlet's Walk, Tori will bring the role of Scarlet to life.
Supporting Amos throughout the tour will be singer-songwriter Howie Day, who's debut album, Australia, was re-released by Epic Records on June 10, 2002.

Dwight Yoakam Cancels Fall Tour For Film Commitment
Due to scheduling conflicts with Dwight Yoakam's acting commitment in a new film, the October and November tour schedule has been suspended. The dates may possibly be rescheduled during a 2003 tour.
Yes Keeps On Touring With Classic Lineup
Yes will 
kick off a brief second North American tour October.24 in Clearwater, FL and winding down November 8-9 shows in Upper Darby, PA.
As on its summer tour, the band's lineup remains the classic five-piece version of Yes: vocalist Jon Anderson, bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, and keyboardist Rick Wakeman.
"Touring with Rick again has been a lot of fun for us," Squire said in a statement.
"The band is playing better than ever, and the fans have really been responding well to the shows. We are really looking forward to the next leg of this tour, as we feel we're just getting started."
