Toad's Place Shuttered For Eight Days And Fined

Toad's Place in New Haven, CT has been shuttered by the state Liquor Commission for eight days, September 16-24 and fined $25,000 for serving alcohol to minors. According to the New Haven Register, the state levied other violations, including a sanitation problem when fruit flies were found in 23 bottles of sweet liquor. The violations took place on July 26 and September 12 of last year, according to Gerald Langlais, administrator for the commission. Toad's served liquor to eight minors between 18 and 20 years old on September 12, 2001 and also attempted to hide some of the underage drinkers in a locked room in the basement when state agents spread throughout the club.

Attorney Jan Trendowski, who represents Toad's, said the fine and suspension were negotiated with the club over the past several months, according to the paper. Toad's Place's Web site showed no band bookings during the rock-and-roll hiatus.
