OTTOWA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Ottawa citizens will have to wait for one more week before they discover if the city will opt to build a much-discussed 925-seat, $38 million concert hall.
According to a report in the Ottawa Business Journal, the city's corporate services and economic affairs committee rejected a request for a three-month deadline extension while more financing is sought but otherwise demurred on the issue, leaving the final decision to the full city council, which will meet next week.
Supporters of the hall, primarily drawn from the ranks of the Ottawa Chamber Music Society, still reportedly need to scrape together $24 million in funding before the deadline of November 30th. Several deals with sponsors are in the works but need more time. The committee has also offered to facilitate a request for funding from the Canadian government as well, and have not moved to withdraw the $10 million in funding commitments made by the city for the project. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
