Three NFL Teams Apply To Move To LA

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — On Monday, three different NFL franchises — the Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams — all submitted applications to relocate to California, as multiple plans for stadiums are under consideration.

While proposals for new sports stadiums in Los Angeles have come and gone, this is the first time that any NFL team has formally requested permission to move to the market since both the Raiders and the Rams left after the 1994 season.

The Rams are hoping to take up occupancy of the $1.86-billion stadium in Inglewood proposed by team owner Stan Kroenke. The stadium would occupy the former site of the Hollywoody Park racetrack and serve as the anchor of a 298-acre entertainment, retail and housing development.

The Chargers and the Raiders are hoping to share a proposed $1.7-billion stadium in Carson, California, which is being developed by a team led by Disney's Robert Iger.

The applications put the ball in the hands of the NFL owners, who must approve one of the two stadiums. According to the Los Angeles Times, the league's 32 owners will convene in Houston for a special meeting next week with an eye towards holding a vote, with a successful stadium bid requiring votes from three-fourths of the owners. A decision is expected before March, to pave the way for a team to move in time for the 2016 season, the Times said. -Staff Writers
