The Tragically Hip's Gordon Downie Reveals Terminal Brain Cancer Diagnosis, Announces Tour

KINGSTON, ONT. (CelebrityAccess) — Gordon Downie, frontman of Canadian rock legends The Tragically Hip, revealed that he has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

According to the CBC, Downie suffers from an aggressive form of brain cancer known as glioblastoma, which is incurable and one of the most common causes of cancer deaths for Canadians in Gordie's age demographic.

Gordie was diagnosed in December after he suffered a seizure and has since undergone six weeks of chemotherapy and radiation, as well as surgury, according to the CBC.

While this is certainly grim news for Tragically Hip fans, the band is planning to head out for one final tour in support of their latest album, "Man Machine Poem." While full details of the tour have yet to be announced, it is scheduled for next summer.

"This feels like the right thing to do now, for Gord, and for all of us," the band said in a statement announcing the news. – Staff Writers
