T.E.A.M. Entertainment Sues Ashanti

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — R&B singer Ashanti is going to court to defend herself and her manager/mother against the charge that they broke contracts with T.E.A.M. Entertainment.

According to the New York Post, in 1997 Ashanti and her mother signed a contract with T.E.A.M. giving the company “sole and exclusive personal services” for all recordings. Later that year she signed a release agreement with the firm under the condition that T.E.A.M. would receive “certain benefits and fees.”

Since leaving the company Ashanti has released two albums and sold almost 5 million records in a two year span. T.E.A.M. is now suing, hoping to gain $4 million that they say is due to them under the 1997 contracts.

Harry Stokes, Ashanti’s lawyer, claims there is no validity to the suit and accuses T.E.A.M. of trying to cash in on his client’s success. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
