Swedes Favor Legal Music Downloads

Three out of four Swedes, 75 percent, could consider purchasing and downloading music legally from the Internet. Almost two out of three, 63 percent, could consider renting and downloading films. These are some of the findings of a recent Telia survey that polled 1,592 people in Sweden.

"More and more Swedes are getting broadband, which naturally increases their possibilities to download music and moviesin a quick and easy manner," said Indra Sander, head of the consumer segment at TeliaSonera Sweden. "Downloading a film on a Sunday evening will soon become just as common as going to the video store today."

Portables and wireless connections attractive for films and online newspapers In the survey, Swedes were also asked how they would use a portable computer with wireless broadband if they had the equipment at home. Forty-four percent responded that they would read an online newspaper at the breakfast table and 37 percent would use the computer to check the programme listings for TV on the sofa. Seven percent would read online newspapers – on the toilet.

On rainy summer days, Swedes like to surf the Web, responded 35 percent in the survey. Thirty-six percent prefer to read a book, 15 percent watch television, 8 percent play games and 6 percent like to clean. Thus, when summer weather is bad, surfing on the Internet is basically just as popular as diving into an exciting detective novel on the sofa.

The survey also indicated that the Swedes surf a lot at home, with 14 percent of the respondents stating they are usually online ten hours a week. However, 11 percent stated that they surf 24 hours or more from home each week. –Jane ohen andBob Grossweiner
