Streamwaves Licenses Universal Music Group Catalog

Streamwaves, a Dallas-based streaming media company, and Universal Music Group (UMG), a division of Vivendi Universal,
have entered into a non-exclusive licensing agreement that will add U.S. Universal Music titles to Streamwaves' on-demand streaming subscription service.

Under terms of the agreement, UMG will license its catalog of titles to be streamed on-demand to U.S. subscribers of Streamwaves' music subscription service. The Streamwaves service, which is set to officially launch in Summer 2002, allows subscribers to stream an unlimited number of tracks on demand, from any Internet-enabled device as well as certain portable devices. Last year, UMG also licensed a limited number of Gospel albums from its catalog to Streamwaves' Higherwaves subscription service.

"The Streamwaves vision since our inception in 1999 has remained constant, to offer consumers unlimited access to a large library of popular music at affordable prices," said Streamwaves CEO Jeff Tribble. "This agreement with Universal Music Group puts us one step closer to fulfilling that vision under business terms that work for all concerned."

Universal Music Group eLabs President Larry Kenswil said: "We are always looking for new ways to expand the reach of our artists' music while ensuring that their rights are fully respected. Streamwaves offers a great opportunity for us to do that. There is clearly huge demand for music delivered digitally and we want to support as many innovative online music services as possible."
