Star Wars: The Force Awakens Takes The Galaxy To Number One

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – It looks like JJ Abrams is going to more than Deliver on that 4-billion-dollar price tag Disney paid George Lucas for rights to the last three episodes in the Star Wars series. This weekend it broke every opening weekend box office record, but does it have the legs to bump Avatar and Titanic off the two top spots for the title of biggest box office blockbuster ever.

"(The Force Awakens) is the box office equivalent of the 100-year flood. It's definitely, no question, a new all-time weekend record," says Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst for Rentrak. "It's just a matter of HOW big this weekend number will get. A lot of that will depend on how the movie does on Saturday."

"This is a major event in the history of movies and yet there's still tickets available," says Dergarabedian.
