Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous Commits Suicide


KNOXVILLE, TN (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Mark Linkous, singer and songwriter for alt-rockers Sparklehorse, took his own life on Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn., he was 47. Prominent in the indie-rock and alt-country worlds according to the New York Times, Linkous shot himself in an alley aside his friend's house with his own gun his manager Shelby Meade said.


Although not yet considered a commercial success Sparklehorse's had achieved critical acclaim and earned the respect of other musicians, the New York Times said. Sparklehorse was near completion of his latest album.


A statement from his family on the bands website reads "It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free.
