SONGS Takes On U.S. Publishing Rights For 'My Way'

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — SONGS Music Publishing announced that it has signed a music publishing agreement with Because Music for United States exclusive representation of "My Way." The agreement follows a similar arrangement with the heirs of George Gershwin and further extends the reach of SONGS – the leading contemporary independent publisher in the United States – into classic repertoire.

Popularized by Frank Sinatra, and covered by hundreds of recording artists from Elvis Presley to Sid Vicious, "My Way" is one of the most famous and recognizable songs in the history of popular music. The roots of "My Way" lay in the 1967 French song, "Comme d'habitude," written by Claude François, Jacques Revaux and Gilles Thibaut.

Claude François' heirs recently recovered his share of the publishing rights to both "My Way" and "Comme d'habitude" and assigned these rights to a holding of the Because Group, the leading independent publisher in France. As an extension of a longstanding relationship between SONGS Music Publishing and Because, SONGS will handle all music publishing matters for the Because interests in the United States.

"At SONGS, our goal is to work with the finest and rarest repertoire in music – contemporary and classic." said SONGS Music Publishing Founder and CEO, Matt Pincus. "The opportunity to handle the rights to 'My Way' and 'Comme d'habitude' is a dream come true, and we are so grateful to Emmanuel, Michel, Benjamin and their fantastic team at Because for entrusting us with these precious rights in the US."
