Sedona Cultural Park Closes Amphitheatre

SEDONA, AZ (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Georgia Frontiere Performing Arts Pavilion, a 5,500 seat amphitheatre within the Sedona Cultural Park has filed for bankruptcy. John Burton, chairman of the park’s board said there were few options left due to financial constraints, lack of public support and a lawsuit he was not allowed to comment on.

“We rely heavily on public donations,” said Burton, “but this year the money just did not come in.” He also noted that the city of Sedona, which could have kept the amphitheatre afloat, refused to help. “I guess we just are not on the priority list for Sedona,” he added.

In the past few years the park has played host to such big names as Willie Nelson, Tony Bennett, The String Cheese Incident and Dave Brubeck, but the lack of funding and rumors about the venue closing have chased away possible shows.

“[Sedona] Jazz on the Rocks had to move to a smaller venue this year,” Burton commented. “They heard we might be shutting down and didn’t want to deal with us. If we had been able to book that show, we might be in a better situation right now.” –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
