Ron Spencer Stepping Down At Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center


TALLAHASSEE, Florida (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Veteran facilities manager Ron Spencer has announced that after 33 years, he is retiring from his post as Executive Director of the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center, effective May 15, 2013.

During his tenure, the Civic Center has entertained millions of patrons with a variety of events from FSU Basketball to family shows including Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Monster Jam and Sesame Street Live, sold out concerts by artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Garth Brooks and Jimmy Buffett, as well as special events such as Walking With Dinosaurs, Cirque du Solei I and Riverdance.

Spencer also oversaw the Civic Center's involvement in the presentation of touring Broadway shows and over the past 20 years, more than 120 B'way productions have been presented at the Center, including Les Miserables, Chicago, Hairspray.

Spencer was also involved in the community, serving on the Executive Committee and as past President of the Tallahassee Convention and Visitors Bureau and a past member of the Board of Directors for the Tallahassee Area Chamber of Commerce. Spencer is an active member of the International Association of Venue Managers, member of the Tallahassee Rotary Club, past President of the Florida Facility Managers Association, a member of Arena Network, a member of The Broadway League and past Tony Awards voter as well as a member of the Country Music Association and voting member of the Country Music Awards.

Ron Spencer said "I have been proud of the accomplishments the Civic Center has achieved over the last 33 years. We have entertained thousands of people and presented hundreds of shows. Spencer added, "As I step down I think with FSU's involvement and commitment to the community that the Civic Center will remain an integral part of the Tallahassee community. I wish FSU and the Civic Center continued success."
