Rolling Stone Hit With $25 Million Lawsuit Over Rape Allegations

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CelebrityAccess) — Rolling Stone has been hit with a $25 million lawsuit over a 2014 article that alleged that three members of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity at the university raped a woman.

The New York Times reported that a complaint, filed by the fraternity in Charlottesville Circuit Court, named the magazine, and the article's author Sabrina Rubin Erdely as defendants, claiming reputational damages.

The suit is the third complaint filed against Rolling Stone, with three members of the fraternity who were cited in the article, have also filed suit, seeking at least $225,000 each, and a university associate dean who was identified in the article, is suing for more than $7.5 million.

Rolling Stone published the article in November, 2014, alleging that a univeristy freshman was raped by the three fraternity members, however, details quickly came to light that challenged the magazine's reporting on story. Rolling Stone subsequently retracted the story in April and its managing director Will Dana has since left the publication.
