
Rochester, NY is set to a get a new weeklong jazz festival next summer — a European-style jazz festival in America modeled after the Montreaux Jazz Festival, and produced by a Swedish jazz promoter.
Thirty jazz, rock and blues artists will perform at the proposed Rochester International Jazz Festival June 3-9 produced by John Nugent, co-owner of Sweden's Stockholm Jazz Festival as well as the president of a New York City arts management group. Nugent has about $535,000 pledged of the needed $600,000 to launch the festival.
Venues to be booked include the Blue Cross Arena at the Community War Memorial, Eastman Theatre, High Falls and local nightclubs.
Rochester also hosts MusicFest in early July.
