Rick Rubin To Receive Spotify's 'Legendary Genius' Award

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Spotify to Honor Rick Rubin With 'Legendary Genius Award' at Inaugural Secret Genius Awards

Famed record producer Rick Rubin will be honored during the debut of Spotify's Secret Genius Awards when it takes place at Vibiana Cathedral in Downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, November 1, 2017.

The awards are designed to recoginize formally credited songwriters and producers who are involved in the creation of a top streaming song on the digital music service. To be eligible, songwriters must have a significant creative contribution to the writing of the song, while songwriters or producers of re-mixes and covers are not eligible. Songwriters who performed the song on the recording are also not eligible.

Rubin will be recognized for his contributions to artists such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eminem, Justin Timberlake, Dixie Chicks, Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys and LL Cool J, Adele and many more, Spotify said.

“There is likely no better person to help us tell the importance of Spotify’s Secret Genius Awards narrative better than Rick Rubin, a true legend to our industry,” said Troy Carter, Global Head of Creator Services, Spotify. “While Rick’s greatness is far from a secret at this stage of his impressive career, he is an inspiration to all the quietly known producers, songwriters, and artists, who are responsible for the music we discover and love every day.”

The Secret Genius Awards are made up of 13 main categories with five nominees each and include Secret Genius of the Year: Producer, Secret Genius of the Year: Songwriter and more.
