ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (AP) – Construction of a new $2 billion Boardwalk casino can begin now that Atlantic City's planning board has signed off.
The board granted site plan approval to Revel Entertainment.
The company has been preparing land next to the Showboat Casino Hotel for a new ocean-themed casino. The project, to be called "Revel," is due to open in the second half of 2010.
The first phase of the project calls for a single tower with 1,800 to 1,900 rooms. When a second tower is built, that number would rise to 3,800 to 3,900 rooms.
It will offer 150,000 square feet of casino space.
The new casino is expected to include Atlantic City's first casino wedding chapel.
