LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — The Recording Academy has announced a spate of rules changes for the Grammys, including some new categories and the addition of streaming-only records to the list of music eligible for consideration.
New rules implemented by the Recording Academy include an expansion of the blues category, with best traditional blues album and best contemporary blues album both becoming categories for the next Grammy awards.
The Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category has also been updated, and redefined as Best Rap/Sung Performance, which is intended to recognize solo and collaborative performances containing elements of R&B and rap in melody and song.
Other changes include a reduction in the number of categories that voters can participate in, a change the Academy says is intended to encourage voters to choose categories where they have expertise, and changes to guidelines for Best New Artist, to reflect changing trends in how new music is released and promoted.
The Academy also announced that they have renewed their longtime agreement with CBS, keeping the Grammy Awards telecast on the network through 2026. The new agreement means the Grammy Awards will have been on CBS for 54 years, making it the longest broadcast partnership for an awards show in the history of television. – Staff Writers
