Pioneer Awards Re-set For Nov. 8 At Apollo Theatre


The Rhythm and Blues Foundations 12th Annual Pioneer Awards has been rescheduled to November 8 from October 4. Dionne Warwick and Isaac Hayes will co-host the ceremony, to be held at the Apollo Theatre for the first time.

Among those being honored are Rev. Al Green, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award; Sly & The Family Stone, Holland/Dozier/Holland And Louis Jordan.

Ed Bradley of "60 Minutes" will be on hand to honor Lifetime Green. Bradley, along with Ashford & Simpson, will also pay tribute to Louis Jordan with the Legacy Award.

Award presenters include Mary Wilson, Brenda Russell, Betty Wright, Gerald Levert, Richard Roundtree, and Paul Shaffer. Leon Pendarvis will act as musical director, with Shaffer serving as music consultant.

The Foundation's Pioneer Awards ceremony honors legendary artists whose lifelong contributions have been seminal in the development of Rhythm and Blues music.

The 12th Annual Pioneer Award Honorees are:
Lifetime Achievement Award: Al Green
Individual Artist Honorees: Fontella Bass, Big Jay McNeely, Dee Dee Sharp
Group Artist Honorees: The Emotions, Sly & The Family Stone
Songwriter/Entrepreneur Honorees: Holland/Dozier/Holland, Allen Toussaint
Legacy Tribute: Louis Jordan
