Philips Arena Receives Greenlink Ambassador Award

ATLANTA, GA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Atlanta’s Philips Arena, home of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, the NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers and the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream, will be awarded the ‘GreenLink Ambassador Award’ by SouthEast LINK Wednesday, September 2nd during a luncheon at the Cobb Galleria Ballroom at 12 p.m. The annual award is given to the venue for taking a leadership position in sustainability and defining the role that businesses should play in environmental stewardship.

“As the first professional sports and concert facility in the world to receive LEED-EB certification, Philips Arena is the model for other sports and entertainment venues to follow in their greening efforts,” said Phillip Consolino, President of SouthEast LINK. “As Green Cleaning specialists, we admire the work that their staff has done, and continues to do, to reduce the building’s impact on the local environment.”

“We thank SouthEast LINK for their recognition of the work that we’ve done to conserve water and energy, recycle waste and improve our indoor air quality,” said Philips Arena President, Bob Williams. “We look forward to partnering with them to continue to enhance our green performance for our fans and the residents of metro Atlanta.”

On April 2, 2009, Philips Arena achieved LEED for Existing Building: Operations and Maintenance (LEED-EB: O&M) certification as specified by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
