Pere Ubu Guitarist Jim Jones Dies

CLEVELAND (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Jim Jones, Pere Ubu guitarist and a long-time fixture in the Cleveland music scene was found dead on Monday in his home in Cleveland. He was 57

A cause of death has not been determined, but according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Jones had a history of high blood pressure and heart problems.

During his long career, Jones filled many roles, starting as a clerk in a local record shop, then serving as a roadie for the reformed Pere Ubu in the 1980s, The Easter Monkeys and The Mirrors.

"Jim was the only guy who could make Pere Ubu into a pop band," longtime friend and former Drome Records owner John Thompson told the Plain Dealer "He could play anything."

In recent years, Jones' health deteriorated and he contented himself to a quiet private life. "He lived alone as long as I knew him, but it never seemed to bother him," Pere Ubu bandmate Allen Ravenstine said. "That was the dichotomy of Jim: He was a private man who knew everyone." – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
