NZ Promoter Garry Sharpe-Young Dead At 45


TARANAKI, NZ (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — New Zealand promoter Garry Sharpe-Young died at his home on March 12 after suffering an aneurysm. He was 45.

Garry Sharpe-Young was the founder of the G-TARanaki Guitar Festival, which saw its inaugural year in 2008 and is slated for a return this year in August. The week-long festival drew some of the world's top guitarists, including Uli Jon Roth and Joe Satriani. Working with the New Plymouth District Council, Sharpe-Young helped to bring numerous major acts to the region, including, Elton John, Jack Johnson, Motorhead Fleetwood Mac, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Organizers for the festival said that they plan on continuing with the event in his memory.

Sharpe-Young was also known as a music journalist, working with American, German and British rock magazines and he also penned a number of artist biographies, including Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath.

Garry is survived by his two daughters and his wife Grace-Anne. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
