Not Fade Away: 4th Annual Buddy Holly Music Symposium

LUBBOCK, TX (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The music hasn’t died…it’s alive and well at the Buddy Holly Center. The Buddy Holly Center is partnering with Texas Tech University, and the Texas Music Office of the Governor to present Not Fade Away: The 4th Annual Buddy Holly Music Symposium, from September 2nd-5th, 2004. This year the Buddy Holly Center continues its tradition of presenting an action packed event, celebrating West Texas’ influence on 1950’s pop culture that impacted and influenced early Rock ‘n’ Roll music.

A huge cross section of renowned American musicians, professionals, authors and fans will come together to commemorate the life, music, roots, and influence of Charles Hardin “Buddy” Holly, one of the founding fathers of Rock ‘n’ Roll. In addition to two panels exploring the emergence of rock music and the players therein, the Buddy Holly Symposium will host the popular Songwriter’s Panel moderated this year by Terry Stewart, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, live musical performances, a Fan Fair Luncheon honoring former Cricket, Niki Sullivan, and the Business of Music Workshop conducted by experts in the music entertainment business. The Symposium continues to push the boundaries of music through its breadth and variety of panels, workshops and performances.

This special weekend kicks off with the Walk of Fame Induction at the Buddy Holly Walk of Fame, Thursday, September 2nd, 2004. On Friday, September 3rd, 2004, we present the Business of Music Workshop; Rockin’ and Rollin’ Drum Clinic with Carl Bunch, drummer from the fated Winter Dance Party; and an opening concert and CD release party with the West Texas Roots Project, featuring performances from Robert Reynolds of the Mavericks, Buddy’s brothers Larry and Travis Holley, and former members of both Buddy Holly’s and Bob Will’s bands. Saturday, the 4th, return for the panels, Country When Country Wasn’t Cool – Buddy’s Country Roots, with panelists Billy Grammer, Jack Neal, and others, and The Aftermath, a panel discussing the impact of Buddy’s death on music, moderated by Bill Griggs, music historian. The Fan Fair Luncheon, Songwriter’s Panel and The Winter Dance Party Band Concert round out Saturday’s activities. Join us Sunday, September 5th, for an afternoon of Courtyard Concerts, with various performers.

Registration for all panels and fan fair luncheon is $35. The Business of Music Workshop is $20 and the Rockin’ and Rollin’ Drum Clinic is $15. Students with a valid I.D. may attend academic panels only free of charge. All music performances are free and open to the public.
