Northern Rockies Music Fest Launches Crowdfunding Campaign

HAILEY, Idaho (CelebrityAccess) — Organizers for the The Northern Rockies Music Festival report that the festival is dire financial circumstances due to rising costs and declining attendance.

The festival, which has taken place in the valley continuously since 1977, has launched a crowdfunding effort through a new GoFundMe page and organizers say that if they aren't able to raise sufficient funding, the event might be discontinued.

According to the Idaho Mountain Express, the festival has faced challenges from summer forest fires and the 2008 recession and last year, failed to break even.

“We had gotten to the point where even one night of low numbers affected our bottom line,” Northern Rockies Music Festival Board President Dana DuGan told the Express. “Even one small act of god was affecting our attendance.”

DuGan attributed some of the festival's decline to increased competition, noting that the close proximity of the Mountain Home festival, which launched last year at a location about 30 miles away, had an significant impact on attendance.

“This festival was the next big thing,” DuGan told The Express. “We lost half of our attendance. They have a lot of money and they had big names like Blake Shelton. I think we lost most of our Boise people to that event.”

The Northern Rockies Music Festival is set to take place next year from July 31st – August 1st at Hop Porter Park in Hailey, Idaho. – Staff Writers
