No Bail For Suspected Killers As Lucky Dube Mourned

JOHANNESBURG, SA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — A South African judge has ordered that no bail be set for 4 men who were arrested in connection to the murder of international reggae star Lucky Dube during an apparent carjacking on October 18th

According to Cape Argus, the four men Sifiso Mlanga, Julius Gxowa, Thabo Mafoping and Mbofi Mabe have been formally charged with murder, attempted hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Two of the suspected men are of South African origin while two are Mozambicans.

Thousands of supporters for the slain singer, including fans, musicians and industry people, turned out for a memorial service held at Bassline, a nightclub in Newtown. According to the Sunday Times, there was a confrontation when police refused admission by some fans and journalists from entering the already-packed club.

Among the mourners present was president of the Congress of South African Trade Unions, Zwelinzima Vavi, who according to the BBC, quoted the slain singer in eulogy "Do you ever worry about your house being broken into? Do you ever worry about your car being taken away from you? Do you ever worry about leaving home and coming back in a coffin? So join us and fight this."

While the memorial was taking place, other mourners participated in a protest march, organized by the Creative Worker's Union to decry violent crime in South Africa, the BBC Reported.
