Nicki Minaj Criticized For Angolan Show


NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Human rights activists are calling on singer Nicki Minaj to cancel her concert scheduled for Angola on Saturday, taking her to task for 'callously taking money from a dictator'.

José Eduardo dos Santos, president of the oil-rich African nation, has been accused of accumulating vast stores of wealth through through extensive political corruption, while a large portion of the country's population lives in abject poverty.

dos Santos, who seized power in 1979, has also been accused of ruthlessly quashing domestic dissent through arrests and violence.

Minaj is due to perform in Angola's capital Luanda on Saturday for a Christmas concert hosted by Unitel, a communications firmed owned, in part, by Eduardo dos Santos's family.

Mariah Carey also attracted controversy in 2013 when she performed for dos Santos for a reported fee of $1 million. She has since said she will no longer perform for dictators. – Staff Writers
